The blunder let Twitter users run their imaginations wild. Soon memes were being posted and pig-gate’s sequel was aired: #Poppygate. But somewhere – wedged between mockery and an embarrassed Prime Minister – a sinister truth emerged. The Poppy Appeal has gone too far.
