Scientist concerned over ‘CIA’ weather weapon query

A senior US scientist has expressed concern that the intelligence services are funding climate change research to learn if new technologies could be used as potential weapons. Alan Robock, a climate scientist at Rutgers University in New Jersey, has called on secretive government agencies to be open about their interest in radical work that explores how to alter the world’s climate. Robock, who has contributed to reports for the intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), uses computer models to study how stratospheric aerosols can cool the planet in the way massive volcanic eruptions do. But he was worried about who would control such climate-altering technologies should they prove effective, he told the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Jose. Last week, the National Academy of Sciences published a two-volume report on different approaches to tackling climate change. One focused on means to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the other on ways to cha…

The X-Files 2016: “And a Final Takeover Begins”

When asked if I had viewed the new X-Files by a friend, I answered “no.” Their eyes widened; the normally casual voice heightened. “But you have to, it’s something else this time!” I sighed, rolled my own eyes – thoughts about the articles and other deadlines piling up, crossed my mind. “Yes, yes, another alien invasion TV show,” I remembered its debut frightening the crap out of me when I was a sleepy adolescent kid. But back when the X-Files originally debuted in 1993, the world was still moderately naïve. If anything, the X-Files, perhaps unintentionally, woke us up to other possibilities. Perhaps the governments around the world held an agenda we knew nothing about. It was a thought worth thinking. It was a thought that sometimes kept me awake. Fast forward to the second coming of the X-Files, still with original actors Duchovny and Anderson; and the show seems to be hitting on the questions pursued on everyone’s lips. The broadcast of the new X-Files, which reaches millions across …

THE SUN PRINTS MADE UP STORY ABOUT UNION JACK COAT

Daily celebrity gossip pamphlet The Sun has published a highly dubious story about a pub landlord in Barnsley who claims he was told by council officials to remove his Union Jack jacket in case it offended someone. Jason Mawer (pictured above) was bought the jacket, which is in the style of those worn by one of his favourite bands The Who, for his 40th birthday by his girlfriend. But he says he was told to take it off twice in public by unidentified people he refers to as ‘council enforcement officers‘. Despite there being no evidence of who these people might be other than Mr Mawer’s hunch that they were enforcement officers, and no attempts whatsoever to actually make him remove the coat, The Sun ran the story with the headline JOBSWORTHS BAN WHO FAN’S ‘OFFENSIVE’ UNION JACK JACKET. The paper mentions that Barnsley Council have no record of this incident occurring, although this is put in the last line of the article. Mr Mawer seems to have the impression that these two mysterious peopl…
